DSP of the Year 2011
Jeanette Penix Named West Virginia’s Direct Service Professional of the Year
The MENTOR Network and REM West Virginia are proud to recognize Jeanette Penix, who was recently named West Virginia’s Direct Service Professional of the Year by the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR). As a 10 year veteran of REM West Virginia, Jeanette has made a positive impact in the lives of many individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who receive personalized support through REM’s home and community-based programs.
The DSP of the Year Award, which is presented annually to DSPs in states across the country, reflects Jeanette’s ongoing commitment to The Network’s mission of ensuring individuals of all abilities reach their full potential in the communities they call home.
“Jeanette makes a tremendous difference in the lives of the people she supports every day,” said Jane Ketcham, State Director of REM West Virginia. “At REM West Virginia we are honored to have many remarkable employees like Jeanette whose talents, energy and caring nature enable us to continue helping individuals of all abilities live life to the fullest.”
Penix was among 212 Direct Service Professionals nominated from programs across the country. The award recipients were selected based on several factors including their effectiveness in building social networks, meaningful and productive participation in the community for the people they serve, and advocating or effecting change on behalf of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“I couldn’t think of a more deserving recipient of this award,” said Jennifer Meador, Service Coordinator for REM West Virginia and Jeanette’s nominator. “Jeanette puts the needs of those she supports above her own and goes above and beyond to ensure that ‘her boys’ are happy, safe and supported in every way.”
“On behalf of everyone at REM West Virginia, I want to congratulate Jeanette who is an inspiration to us all. She truly embodies the spirit and mission of The MENTOR Network and we are very grateful to have her as part of our team,” continued Ketcham. “I would also like to commend Jennifer Meador for recognizing Jeanette’s extraordinary work and nominating her for this award.”
The American Network of Community Options and Resources is a national trade association representing more than 800 private providers of community living and employment supports and services to more than 400,000 individuals with disabilities.
